The Lucky Losers, featuring Cathy Lemons and Phil Berkowitz, play at The Saloon in San Francisco, CA. Other band members include Jon Lawton, Tim Wagar, and Robi Bean.
The Saloon is the oldest bar in San Francisco (established 1861) and boasts the best of the blues in the Bay Area, not only in terms of the incredibly good music with exuberant crowds of a mid-week evening, but because of the impressive array of albums recorded on the premises and released by proprietor Myron Mu. Cathy Lemons recorded her first record "Dark Road" there in 1999. The days of catching Tommy Castro at The Saloon are now at Christmas time under "TC Rider," but Ron Hacker, Steve Freund, Daniel Castro, Cathy Lemons, Wendy Dewitt, and many others are on the regular roster. Cathy Lemons has been playing at The Saloon steadily since 1987.
During the 1800s, so the legends go, drunks who stumbled out of this tavern risked being shanghaied for nasty and ill-paid ocean voyages. The building survived the 1806 earthquake, it's said, because of its unusually stout timbers and because of the fact that it was once a brothel and the firefighters ran to save the ladies of the night from flames. Today the doorman/bouncer Greg scares the hell out of would-be troublemakers but is actually one of the sweetest characters you'll ever meet.
